Get To Know Scottish Indie Rockers – The Fratellis

For the life of me, I can’t remember what made me think of The Fratellis a couple of weeks ago, but I’m thrilled I did. Several years ago, one of my younger sisters made me listen to “Chelsea Dagger” and I was immediately smitten. This trio hails from Glasgow, Scotland, and brashly defies being constricted to one music genre, which is why the best I can say is they’re some amazing indie rock. The group features vocalist/guitarist Jon Fratelli, drummer Mince Fratelli, and bassist Barry Fratelli—and I adore the pulsing, catchy music they produce.

Over the years, The Fratellis have woven their way into different parts of my life, when mellow music just won’t cut it. I listened to it when I drove to Tennessee, early in the foggy morning, to interview for the graduate and internship program. It’s pulsing tracks have accompanied me on many a challenging run. “Henrietta” woke me up early in the morning on my first day of work in Baltimore, and I danced across my apartment to “Flathead” (after coffee hit the system). The Fratellis produce one-of-a-kind music that seems to be in the same category as Mumford and Sons, Flogging Molly, Arctic Monkeys, or Bastille, but somehow still set apart.

Check out these awesome lyrics from “Chelsea Dagger:”

Well you must be a girl with shoes like that

she said you know me well

I seen you and little steven and Joanna

Round the back of my hotel oh yeah

Someone said you were asking after me

But I know you best as a blagger

I said tell me your name is it sweet?

She said my boy it’s dagger oh yeah…

But don’t just take my word for it. Check out this playlist below and tweet us what you think @litdarling or in the comments below!
