Down With The Patriarchy! A Pussy Power Playlist

If you have been alive within the last 40 years, you are surely familiar with the lyrical braggadocio spewed by men proud of (or compensating for a lack of) their endowments or sexual prowess. If you are anything like me, you’re pretty much done with being told by rappers and rock stars alike that they will “beat the p*ssy up,” or make girls choke on their extra-long dongs. Even more exhausting are male artists who tout themselves as willing to go down on women, as if it’s a gift from them to you and not an equal reciprocation of what they expect from us. So for all you out there who are 100% done with this patriarchal penis anthem shit, whether you possess a p*ssy or not, this very NSFW playlist is for you.

My Neck, My Back – Khia

The seminal (hah) 2002 p*ssy power hit of our childhoods, “My Neck, My Back” is unapologetically explicit and helped pave the way for popularized demands for cunnilingus.

How Many Licks – Lil Kim

In terms of unedited, sexually graphic rhymes, Lil Kim was and continues to be a pioneer. She was not afraid to be nasty, and for that, I salute her with this classic, featuring Sisqo (what classics don’t feature Sisqo?).

My Vag – Awkwafina

A response to Mickey Avalon’s admittedly funny “My Dick,” rapper Awkwafina’s “My Vag” is a skillful exploration of the vaginal vernacular, reminding us all that her (and all of our) “vagina is 50 times better than a penis.”

Das Me – Brooke Candy

With this track, Brooke “Freaky Princess, Queen of Italy, Lady THC, Betty Blow, Hoodrat Drew Barrymore” Candy, attacks sexual double standards, the prudish moratorium on women asserting their own sexuality, and veers into a playfully misandrist territory with her violent rhymes against men. What’s not to love?

Get On Your Knees – Nicki Minaj ft. Ariana Grande

This incredible collaboration from Minaj’s recent masterpiece, The Pinkprint, is not only well-balanced between Nicki’s biting commands and Ariana’s romantic melodies, it is a true portrait of female sexual dominance and I LOVE IT.

Konichiwa Bitches – Robyn

Pixie-sized Swedish artist Robyn is not afraid to strut her stuff in this almost cutesy song, named after a Dave Chappelle joke, from her fourth studio album, dangling her goods in front of the male object.

Blow – Beyoncé

December 13, 2013: a day which shall live in infamy. On this day. Queen Bey dropped Beyonce, blessing us with previously unprecedented access to her mature sexuality. The central jewel in this crown is “Blow,” a detailed but thinly veiled set of innuendo paired with a meticulous beat by Pharrell.

Pussy Make the Rules – Brooke Candy

Whether or not this may be true in larger social power structures which hope to establish rules to govern pussies and usually not the other way around, this empowering contribution by Brooke Candy (and its delightfully weird, LadyGaga-esque video) will make you want to pop it with the best.

Pu$$y – Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is an admittedly problematic artist, whose unique relationship with hip-hop culture has won her some accolades and avalanches of criticism. But there is no denying the potent power of “Pu$$y,” which is the last song you want to appear on shuffle when you’re in the car with your grandma.

L8R – Azealia Banks

Banks is a similarly controversial artist, reviled by some for her occasionally homophobic lyrics and love for Twitter drama, but her rhymes and her speeches on the state of racial equality in America have some serious potency. With “L8R,” Banks unapologetically delves into the graphic, vividly likening her parts to dessert.

I’m Tasty – Pink Dollaz

The story of my discovery of this song is something incredible: In high school, my best friend discovered a battered pink iPod shuffle in the gutter bordering his home in Oakland. Among the gems on that iPod was the indie girl rap group, Pink Dollaz, who recently won Female Breakthrough Artists of the Year at the annual California Hip-Hop Ladies Awards. Go girls!

Pussy – Lady

This song is essentially a filthy, vag-centric expansion of Booty Man. Lady, the true Bitch From Around The Way, has always been one of my favorite female MCs and songs like this are exactly why.
