Don’t Be Stubborn, Listen to “Penny and Sparrow” Today

Sometimes, I’m too stubborn for my own good. In high school, when my friend told me about a new duo he had fallen in love with, I nodded, said “hmm,” and forgot their name twenty seconds later. I thought that if they were really that good, I’d hear about them somewhere else, or I’d discover them on my own. Long story short, three years later I finally (accidentally) downloaded one of their songs, and from there, I was hooked. To say that I regret those three years without the lovely melodies and soothing harmony of Penny & Sparrow would be a drastic understatement.

But, thankfully, those days are long gone and now the poetic beauty of two young men from Texas is just a click away for me. And, as I myself have been greatly inspired, reassured, and comforted by their hauntingly beautiful music, I feel it is my civic duty to tell all y’all to start drinking the P&S Kool-Aid.

I have never in my life been able to fall asleep with any noise or light at all. However, Penny and Sparrow have changed that completely. If I’m tired, but my anxiety is keeping me up, putting on one of their albums has lulled me to sleep like a baby. On the other hand, it has been known to cheer me up, encourage me, and just help me feel good in general. And with the release of their new album, “Let a Lover Drown You,” on March 12th, I have decided that Penny and Sparrow officially need to be on more people’s radar, and their new album is a perfect excuse to fall in love (as if you really needed one).

My suggestion is to listen to the album (or all their albums) all the way through, at least three times. A lot of the songs blend seamlessly into each other, are continuations of one another, and really just make you feel like you’re floating in a river of flowers and poems. I promise, adding Penny and Sparrow to your music catalogue will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. And if you’re stubborn like me, just tell people you happened upon them by accident.
