29 Alt-Rock Songs That Will Make You Miss #Summer16

It’s about that time of summer—y’know, the end—when the heat fades out, the evenings get dark a little earlier (ugh), and the reminiscing begins. This summer, I lived the ultimate punk rock dream by attending Warped Tour in Nashville, played tourist in my own city of Chicago, and saw my favorite band twice on their massive summer tour. Throughout all of that, I added a lot of great, new alt-rock music to my library (if my brief list of things I did is any indication, music plays a pretty important role in my summer memories).

That said, now is also the time I like to compile a playlist of the season’s best alt-rock songs to reminisce on the last few months. These are the tunes that had me singing on my morning commute, dancing subtly in my desk chair at work, blasting on my evening commute, and pretty much pouring through any speakers/headphones in my vicinity from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

This summer had no shortage on new, quality alt-rock singles and albums. I was especially excited to hear new music from bands like KONGOS, twenty one pilots, Jimmy Eat World, and Bastille. I even discovered a few new artists like Bishop Briggs, Barns Courtney, The Hunna, and Lewis Del Mar. For good measure, I threw in some singles from alt-rock staple bands like blink-182, Weezer, and The Lumineers. And that’s really just the beginning of this playlist!

These are the best alt-rock songs of summer 2016.
