How to Add Warmth to Your Home Design

If you are a minimalist then you may find it very difficult to make your home look warm and cosy. You may feel as though nothing you do ends up making your home feel better because you hate clutter, and this can make everything that bit more difficult. If you want to help yourself to get the best result out of your home without making it look busy, then here’s what you can do.

Select Warm Colours

The first thing that you need to do is try and create a very warm paint colour. Grey, by nature, is very cool. If you want your home to feel warm and cosy then this is one colour that you should probably avoid. Remember that although grey might be the in-thing right now, it won’t be forever, and that cream is a much more long-standing colour that will certainly come back into fashion in a few years.

Incorporate Wood

Wood adds instant warmth to a room. It doesn’t matter if you just have a hint of wood because you can easily create a cosy atmosphere by simply having hardwood floors or even wooden furniture. Wooden shelving with accents or even pedestals with trays are options as well, so keep this in mind if you can.

Rugs

Did you know that it’s more than possible for you to create that cosy look by simply incorporating rugs? Rugs are very good if you want to add warmth and they also add colour to a room as well. If you want to get the best result out of your purchase, then try and choose ones that are pet-friendly if you have a dog or cat. Vintage rugs are also ideal if you want to add charm and character to your home as well, so keep this in mind if you can.

Add Texture

Believe it or not, texture is a fantastic way for you to make your home feel cosier. Blankets, window treatments, pillow covers or even rugs can all make a world of difference and they can also make your space feel much more like yours.

Blend Old and New

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with you buying things new, but at the end of the day, you have to make sure that you also buy some older things too. If you buy vintage or even antique pieces, then this will add a lot of character to your home and it will also make it easier for you to add personality too. You never know, you may end up finding some great purchases at car boot sales or even at thrift stores. Finding fantastic statement pieces can easily help you to add charm to your home and you may even find that you end up being able to make it feel cosy as a result.

Add Something Organic

Plants, fruits, flowers and vegetables add life to a room. If you want to try and do this with your own home, then why not have a houseplant in the corner of the room or some fresh flowers in the window? When you do, you will soon find that everything comes together nicely and that your home is way brighter as a result.

Small Comforts

If you can, you need to try and bring in small comforts. This can include pillows or even throws. This is the easiest way for you to change the look and feel of your home, and you would be surprised at how much cosier it will feel as a result. If you want to take things to that next level, then why not think about having different cushion covers? If you do then you can have some for autumn, some for winter and then some for summer. This will brighten, or cosy-up your home as time goes on and it will also make everything feel that bit more luxurious.

Hang Art at Eye-Level

This is a very easy change for you to make in your home. If you can, you need to make sure any art that you hang is done so at eye-level. This will help your family and your guests enjoy it and it will also create an element of instant warmth and cosiness. As if that wasn’t enough, it will also help you to really showcase your home.  If you do not have any art, then why not try and make some yourself? You don’t need to be a good painter or an artist in order to do this, in fact, sometimes it’s very easy for you to create art by simply exploring your passions. If you love wine for example, then you can easily glue some wine crate panels together to create a decorative wall piece, or if you love collecting records, why not frame them and display your vinyl cases on the wall?

Buy some Good Curtains

If you want to make sure that your home looks the best that it can then it is always a good idea for you to buy some good curtains. You can easily add cosiness to your space when you do this, and you would be surprised at how much heat it can help you to trap inside your home too. This is ideal when the colder seasons set in, so keep that in mind. Buying shutters is another option, as it gives you the chance to add warmth without having to take up too much of your window space.

Mix and Match

Your furniture doesn’t need to come in a set. It probably shouldn’t either. When you mix and match, you will soon find that you can get the best result out of your shopping experience and you can also really bring out the true style of the room. One trick would be for you to buy furniture that serves more than one purpose, so when you bring it home, you can easily move things around so that your room looks the best that it can.

Use Warm Metals

Using warm metals is imperative. Raw brass can easily bring out the warmth of a room and it can make it feel much cosier. There are so many ways for you to do this, you could search for antique silver when at thrift stores, or you can even add a new brass tray to your coffee table. Little things like this can make your home feel much more luxurious and you would be surprised at what a difference it could make. If you are stuck as to how to incorporate metals, then focus on curtain hooks, door handles, light fixtures or even curtain rails, as this will add the colours you want, naturally.

Of course, there are so many things that you can do to make your home feel warmer, whether you choose to mix and match, use warm metals or even invest in some statement pieces. You can also try and paint the walls in a much warmer colour, or you can try and explore the idea of having throw and rugs. Little things like this might not seem like they’d make much of a difference, but if you are a minimalist then they certainly will, especially when you combine each idea with another. If you want to get some more ideas, then it’s well worth you trying to get some magazines that focus on home décor. When you do, you will be able to see how certain elements come together, and you can also get some ideas for your own home.
